Round Hill Hotel and Villas, one of the finest luxury resorts in Jamaica, has unveiled new culinary programs for the 2012 season including a farm-to-table dinner that uses locally produced food of the highest quality. The resort will be launching the farm-to-table series in May as an extension of the culinary program including the new Grill at Round Hill which opened in late 2011, and the ever-expanding organic garden on property. Spanning three courses, the family-style farm-to-table dinner menu features all local Jamaican ingredients and products from the resort’s garden.
“We are thrilled to be offering what we know our Round Hill guests appreciate, which are fresh, local and seasonal foods,” Executive Chef Martin Maginley said. “Better nutrition and supporting the local community are just a few of the tangible benefits – perhaps most of all is we are serving the freshest, most delicious food we can offer our guests including local organic Chigwell Farm chicken and locally-caught fish.”
Appetizer options in the new farm-to-table menu include local smoked marlin yam balls and a roasted citrus beetroot salad with artisanal goal cheese, followed by entrees featuring steamed local snapper and local pork and chicken from Jamaican farms, grilled over pimento wood. Traditional Jamaican sides include coconut rice and peas and steamed hand-picked callaloo, among others. Desserts include house-made ice creams and coconut-milk banana custard.
The dinner, $55 per person and $27.50 for children, is served weekly at the Grill at Round Hill, situated just above the main bar and terrace of Round Hill, offering beautiful ocean views and direct breezes, along with the only indoor wood-fired grill in Jamaica, using local pimento wood which is indigenous to the island. The focus of the food at the Grill – and property-wide – is simple, locally-produced where possible and sustainable, which drives the menu for the farm-to-table dinners.
With the new Grill restaurant and the farm-to-table dinners, the resort is also continuing longstanding traditions including popular thematic evenings like Friday’s Jamaican Night Buffet served on the seaside terrace, and Beach BBQ on Monday evenings. Lunch service at the Grill will be similar to dinner, and features a straightforward deli-style grill items again with a focus on ingredients. In-villa breakfasts made-to-order and catered by your personal cook will still be a part of the guest experience, as well as cocktails or lunch at the Beach Bar and Pool Bar. Tours of Round Hill’s Organic Garden are led regularly by gardener Dave Hamilton, and live cooking demonstrations from the Chef, wine tastings and spirit tastings are scheduled seasonally.
