Round Hill Hotel and Villas is pleased to partner with The Tourism Product Development Company Ltd (TPDCo) to showcase the talent of master Jamaican craftsmen in the new “Artist in Residence” programme. The creative professionals selected for this initiative are master craftsmen who have honed their craft over many years, in a long tradition of creating carvings from wood and stone. These artists are mostly self-taught, however many of them are recent recipients of a training programme delivered by the Princes School of Traditional Arts in the UK – part of an initiative by Michele Rollins and her team at Rose Hall Developments.
Running from January 27 to February 3, 2016, the artisans will present their creative work directly to Round Hill and our guests. They will also engage with stories, techniques and hands-on connections – an experience quite unique that will be treasured for a lifetime.
The artists featured during this time are: Fitz Mitchell, Errol Anderson, Stafford Stewart and Abdel Mason, and the exhibits will be on property until February 3. Each of the artists will feature one art piece (4 pieces total), which will be placed in the lower lobby, along the grassy side of the walkway to the Pineapple Room and in the Pineapple room.
