Honorary Austrian Consul to Jamaica and Managing Director of Round Hill Hotel and Villas, Josef Forstmayr, organized a visit from the Austrian Delegation as a step towards forging future relationships between Austria and Jamaica.
The group, which included participants such as Reinhard Zauner from Staudinger & Partner GmbH, Alfred Messner of Messner Produktion GmbH & CoKG, Johann Herunter from Frigopol Kaelteanlage GmbH, and Thomas Albert from MYFOOD consultant, visited noteworthy Jamaican factories and companies in food production and agriculture showcasing the ‘best of the best’ in Jamaica.
The delegation attendees were all leaders in the food production, agriculture and quality control in Austria led by August (Gustl) Staudinger of Staudinger & Partner GmbH, one of the largest import and export companies in Austria. Mr. Staudinger is a repeat guest to Round Hill, who first approached Mr. Forstmayr about bringing thought leaders together at the resort earlier this year.
The week of events with the Austrian Delegation included a cocktail and dinner party held at Cottage 18 and the resort’s Hanover Room in which the Honorary Luther Buchanan, the Minister of State in the Office of Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, was able to meet and connect with the group of business leaders. At dinner, Chef Martin Maginley showcased his culinary talent with fantastic cuisine, using only the freshest local ingredients and items directly from the on-property vegetable garden. Following the dinner, Mr. Buchanan was invited by the group to visit Austria in 2016 and meet with companies to see what developments could be adapted and utilized in Jamaica.
All the business leaders enjoyed meeting with the president of the Jamaican Agricultural Society, Senator Norman Grant, alongside additional programming led by Mr. Forstmayr, including tours of Mavis Bank Coffee Factory, Walkerswood (spices), Best Dressed Chicken Factory, Worthy Park Estate and Rum Bar (distillery), Clifton Mount Estate (coffee plantation), Stush in the Bush (farm-to-table dining experience), Belcour Lodge (private, colonial-era home set in a river valley amid expansive gardens), and the comforts of Round Hill in the resort’s idyllic Caribbean setting.
