The Taste of Jamaica competition is an annual event put on by the Culinary Federation of Jamaica aimed at showcasing fusion and contemporary Jamaican cuisine. The event, recently held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on November 24 and 25, 2018 offers over twenty (20) professional level competitions, culinary seminars, demonstrations and exhibitions.
The event, which anticipates thousands of patrons yearly, gives Jamaica’s established and emerging chefs the opportunity to come together to display their skills and improve on their craft. It also gives patrons the chance to see the newest products in the Jamaican marketplace and learn what is happening on the local food scene. The competition also serves as a feeder for the national team to the Taste of the Caribbean competition held annually in Miami, where 12 to 15 Caribbean nations compete for top accolades.
This year, Round Hill Hotel and Villas submitted six (6) entries, with 5 walking away with top recognition for their respective areas. The awards are as follows:
David Gayle – recipient of 2018 Junior Top Chef and the Bronze Award for the Lamb Category
D’Andra Facey – recipient of the Silver Award for the Chicken Category
Dennis Tummings – recipient of the Bronze Award for the Beef Category
Kemar McCalla – recipient of the Gold Award for the Non-Alcoholic Beverage and Bronze Award for the Mystery Basket and Vodka Categories
Adrian Brooks, who despite not receiving a medal, gave a stellar performance in the Seafood Category
Our chefs prepared their most delicious and beautifully crafted meals, and presented them to compete in several categories against some of Jamaica’s most talented food & beverage masters. Learn about the culinary happenings and read more about the Restaurant & Bars at Round Hill.
